Today we honoured our 38 student athletes who achieved an exceptional academic performance in the classroom for 2023-24! This includes 20 athletes that were named USPORTS Academic All-Canadians and 18 Cascades Academic Award recipients. In addition, women’s volleyball was awarded the Presidents Shield for a top team GPA of 3.56.

A true climber is a member of the UFV Cascades that embodied all our department core values, mission, and vision during their time as a Cascade not only on the field of play but out in the UFV and Fraser Valley Community. CLIMB is the mission. Climb is a process. It’s a commitment to consistent steps forward and upward. A climb is a challenge. The challenge is not just expected, it’s invited. The climb will demand much of us. That is the nature of the climb. The nature of the climber is fortitude, persistence, determination and character. We will lead and lift one another up the mountain, together. Together, we will climb, we will conquer.
True climbers are not necessarily the individuals with the program records, or the team captain. True climbers are individuals that you see them living their day to day life and you see them living each core value in different ways. It gives us as a department and as an institution the opportunity to recognize the people who climbed the highest peaks while they were here and that is juggling being a student, an athlete, and an involved member of the Abbotsford community.
Recognizing the people that best represent us regardless of their grades, career points, or team results shows that we are always willing to meet them where they are. That you don’t have to be the best student or the best athlete to be the best version of yourself.
As part of UFV 50 we will be inducting 50 previous Cascades into our True Climber Legacy list. There is no limit to the # of nominations, information on how they were a true climber required as part of the nomination.

Tom Picked up his 50th career win this fall in a 6-0 win over UBC Okanagan.
His 51st win came when the team defeated Victoria 2-1 in the last game of the season to clinch the program’s best regular season record since joining Canada West!
